Causes of Acoustic neuroma
The cause of most acoustic neuromas is unknown. They are very rare and in 95% of cases, they occur spontaneously and are not inherited.
About 5% of acoustic neuromas are caused by a rare, inherited condition called neurofibromatosis. This can cause acoustic neuromas to grow on the acoustic nerves on both sides of the head. It usually affects younger people, who may also get other types of neuromas.
