Prevention of Actinomycosis

Maintaining a good standard of personal hygiene, especially after injury to the skin, reduces the chances of infection with actinomycosis.

A common site of infection is the mouth, through decayed teeth, so regular tooth brushing and dental check ups are important preventative measures.

The risks are greater in those whose immune system is not working fully. This includes groups such as people being treated with chemotherapy, pregnant women, and those who have HIV or AIDS. Personal hygiene is therefore even more important in these cases.
