Diagnosis of Aspergillosis

Diagnostic tests include:

  • sputum sample to test whether spores are present,
  • blood test for the presence of blood proteins antibodies) that counteract aspergillus,
  • x-ray to check for any lung abnormalities,
  • computerised tomography scan (CT scan),
  • skin test to check for allergic reaction,
  • and where invasive aspergillosis is suspected; tissue sample (biopsy),
  • or examination of the inside of the lungs (brochoscopy).
