Treatment of Bone cyst
Many bone cysts will heal without any treatment. However, if treatment is considered necessary to prevent further fractures, there are several methods used by orthopaedic surgeons.
- Curettage/bone grafting - the cyst is surgical scraped, and then the cavity is filled with bone chips taken from another bone.
- Steroid injection - steroids are injected into the cyst, which can help to heal the cyst.
- Bone marrow injection - an injection of bone marrow into the cyst can also help it to heal.
You will need to have regular check-ups with your GP or clinician after any of these procedures, but most cysts do eventually heal.
