Who can use it? of Bone marrow transplant

Bone marrow transplants are considered as treatment for a variety of diseases and cancers, particularly those that affect the blood or the immune system.

The majority of patients who receive bone marrow transplants have leukaemia. Approximately 4,000 new cases of leukaemia are diagnosed in the UK each year.

A bone marrow transplant is not suitable for everyone with leukaemia. It is most often used for people whose leukaemia keeps coming back, or is likely to come back after other treatment.Bone marrow transplants are usually only performed on people under 50 because the risks of the operation increase with age.
