Recovery of Breast reduction
When you wake up after the operation, your breasts will be bandaged. Plastic tubes will be attached to your breasts to drain blood away; some patients bleed a lot and may require a blood transfusion to replace lost blood. The tubes will be removed after 1-3 days when you should be able to go home. You will experience some pain for 2-3 days and this can be relieved with painkillers.
Once you have returned home, you will need to have 2-6 weeks of rest depending on your age and general fitness. The length of time you need to keep the dressings on will depend on how the wounds are healing. After 1-2 weeks, your stitches will either dissolve or will be removed at the outpatient clinic. In the meantime, you must avoid stretching and keep your breasts supported with a well fitting wireless sports bra.
