Causes of Bronchiolitis
Bronchiolitis is most commonly caused by RSV (Respiratory Syncytial Virus). RSV is spread in tiny droplets of saliva, which are passed on through coughing, sneezing, poor hygiene and sharing of towels, face cloths and toys, for example. Children who play in groups (such as at pre-schools and nurseries) are often more susceptible to the condition.Other viruses such as adenovirus and parainfluenza virus can also cause Bronchiolitis.
There is also considerable evidence to suggest that passive smoking (breathing in other people’s cigarette smoke) is a causal factor.
