Diagnosis of Bulimia

People with bulimia are often of normal weight, so the condition is not easy to recognise by friends or family.

Common indications are erosion of teeth enamel, enlarged salivary glands, scarring on the back of the hands, or swollen hands and feet (as a result of suddenly stopping taking laxatives or diuretics). The person may have a history of anorexia, unhappiness with their weight, or may ask for help with weight loss. They might also complain of symptoms such as abdominal pain, bloating, constipation, irregular menstrual periods, or a sore swollen oesophagus (gullet)..
