Symptoms of Cancer of the bone
For most people, the first symptom of primary bone cancer is pain. The affected area may start to swell, redden and become warm as the tumour grows. Movements may become limited, especially if the tumour is near to a joint, or there may be pain when doing activities such as walking or lifting (depending on which bone is affected).
Sometimes the first symptom is a bone fracture, because the tumour causes weakness in part of the affected bone. If you’re fit and active and break a bone during a routine activity such as getting out of bed , which you seem to have performed normally, it can be a sign that the bone is weakened.
Other symptoms can include pain, tingling or numbness caused by pressure on a nerve. You might also experience tiredness, weight loss or sweats, as the cancer grows. If the cancer spreads to another organ, you may experience symptoms of a tumour in that area, for example breathing difficulties if the cancer has spread to your lungs.
