Complications of Cancer of the bone

The most common complication of primary bone cancer is when the cancer spreads to other bones and other parts of the body such as the lungs. This is quite common, particularly if the cancer is not detected early, because bone cancer is very aggressive and spreads quickly.

Although surgeons make every effort to avoid it, in some cases it is also necessary to amputate (remove) the whole or part of a limb, to prevent the cancer spreading further and to save the patient’s life.
