Prevention of Cancer of the mouth
Prevention is based on knowing what causes mouth cancer, and avoiding those things. This means quitting smoking and reducing alcohol intake, and increasing amounts of fruit and vegetables in the diet. Dentists can carry out simple screening.
Looking out for the signs of ulcers and lesions (wounds or patches of diseased cells), and getting them treated early can often avoid the development of pre-cancerous cells into cancers. Good dental hygiene, frequent checkups and well-fitting dentures will also be helpful.
