Diagnosis of Club foot
CTEV can be detected in an unborn baby by ultrasound, but there is no way to treat the condition before the birth. It is often discovered at the time of the birth, as all newborn babies are routinely checked and CTEV is usually immediately visible.
If CTEV is diagnosed, your GP will then examine your baby to check for other conditions that are sometimes associated with CTEV, such as spina bifida (‘open spine’) and muscular dystrophy.
