What is it used for? of Decongestant drugs

Decongestants are used to relieve a blocked nose. Infection or allergy can cause irritation of the mucous membrane that lines the inside of the nose. This leads to swelling of the blood vessels that supply the mucous membrane, making them produce too much mucus.

A blocked, stuffy or runny nose is a normal symptom of the common cold. Decongestant drugs are readily-available and may help, but they are not suitable for young children. Aromatic decongestants, such as vapour rub ointments, capsules or oils, may be more appropriate for children over 3 months of age with a common cold.
