Why is it necessary? of Dental care for babies and children

Looking after teeth from an early age is essential for a healthy mouth through to adulthood.

  • It prevents decay and gum disease, and other complications such as dental abscesses, which can be painful and require treatment such as fillings or tooth extraction.
  • It ensures that the adult teeth have a healthy mouth to grow into, so they are not immediately attacked by infections from other teeth and diseased gums.
  • Most permanent teeth grow just underneath the milk teeth, and this helps them to be positioned properly. Children whose teeth fall out early due to decay, may not have straight adult teeth and require a dental brace. Healthy teeth may also need a brace for straightening, to improve their appearance and make them easier to clean.
  • Healthy teeth mean that the child is able to eat a healthy diet, and aids the growth of the jaw. This can affect facial appearance and speech development.
