Symptoms of Dry eye syndrome

Dry eye causes a gritty, hot discomfort in the eyes and a desire to blink excessively, there may be blurred vision. In severe cases it causes definite corneal pain, similar to the pain of having a speck of grit in the eye. This pain is due to local loss, by drying, of the outer layer of the cornea, the epithelium, so that the corneal nerves are exposed.
