EEG
An EEG (electroencephalogram) is a painless test that records the electrical messages from the brain. Electrodes are placed on the scalp; these pick up electrical activity due to the neurones on the surface of the brain at any given time. The tracings of the tiny electrical signals are recorded on paper or on computer.
The pattern of electrical activity is useful in the diagnosis of some brain disorders, in particular epilepsy, and may show which section of the brain is not working properly. Some types of seizure produce characteristic EEG patterns.
