Diagnosis of Emphysema

The diagnosis is made on the basis of lung function tests, chest X-ray, measurement of the levels of blood oxygen and carbon dioxide, examination of the sputum and other tests.

The X-ray shows abnormally translucent lungs with few of the normal blood vessel markings.
