Complications of Exophthalmos
Some people with exophthalmos may not be able to close their eyes properly when they are asleep. This can lead to damage of the cornea (the clear, dome-shaped part of the eye) as it dries out. Sometimes the drying may be so severe that it causes infection and ulcers in corneas and may damage vision.
Conjunctivitis (inflammation of the lining of the eye) may also be a complication.
