Treatment of Fibroids
Fibroids do not need be removed surgically unless they are causing symptoms. The womb itself does not need to be removed (Hysterectomy) unless the fibroids are very large or there is severe bleeding.
Endometrial ablation is a surgical treatment for fibroids situated near the inner surface of the womb. The local womb lining is removed, which may be done in various ways, including the use of laser energy, a heated wire loop, microwave heating, or hot fluid in a balloon. The treatment can be an alternative to surgical removal of the womb.
