Complications of Head injury
Head injuries can cause brain damage, and this can have many effects, some developing immediately and others over time. They fall into three main categories:
- Physical effects, such as difficulty moving your arms and legs, loss of coordination, paralysis, extreme tiredness, epilepsy and speaking difficulties.
- Cognitive effects (to do with thinking), such as loss of memory, reduced attention span, and slower reaction times.
- Emotional or behavioural effects, such as feelings of restlessness, irritation and anger, selfishness and stubbornness, and a tendancy to laugh or cry more than before.
See topic on Brain injury for further information.
