Treatment of Hepatitis A

There's no specific treatment for hepatitis A and most people recover completely within a couple of months. It is sensible to rest and avoid fatty foods if you feel sick. Try to eat and drink a normal nutritious diet. You should avoid all alcohol while you are ill and your liver is inflamed.

Sometimes you may need to be admitted to hospital for a few days for fluids to be given straight into your body via a drip and medication if your symptoms are more severe. Severe itching caused by jaundice occasionally requires hospital treatment.

You should observe strict hygiene rules. Always wash your hands after using the toilet and before preparing food.
