Prevention of Huntington's disease

There is no way to prevent the disease if you have inherited the defective gene. There is currently no cure for the disease.

Research is being undertaken to try to better understand the cause of the nerve cell death and perhaps identify a way of interfering with the faulty gene so it does not cause Huntington’s. Research is also being carried out to try to create a drug that will slow the progress of the disease.

It may be many years before we are any closer to coming up with effective treatment for Huntington’s.
