What is it used for? of Intrauterine device (IUD)

An IUD is used to prevent pregnancy for three to ten years.  Like any non-barrier contraception method, it does not protect either partner against infection from sexually transmitted infections (STIs).

The IUD can also be used as an emergency method of contraception up to five days after unprotected sex. If you have unprotected sex, make an appointment with your GP or clinic as soon as possible.
