Causes of Irritable hip

It is not clear what causes irritable hip, although in most cases your child will have had a viral infection in the last week or so, such as a cold or sore throat. Sometimes the condition can occur as a result of a fall or injury.

Irritable hip can also occur as a complication if your child suffers from a more serious condition, such as Perthe’s disease (when the top of the thighbone softens, fractures and re-grows out of shape), or various types of juvenile arthritis.
