When should it be done? of Kidney transplant

In someone fit enough to have major surgery, a kidney transplant can be done when a suitable donor kidney becomes available.

If someone has a living donor, it may be possible to perform the transplant just before the kidneys fail completely, so that dialysis is not necessary.
