Treatment of Knock knee
If the distance between the ankles is less than 10 cm and the legs are fairly symmetrical it should not be a cause for concern, and should correct itself by the age of about seven. If it has not corrected itself by the age of 10 then further investigation and treatment may be required.
- The inner edge of the heel of the shoes may be raised slightly to try to correct the line of the leg.
- In severe cases, walking braces or night splints may be used.
- Surgery is considered only in very severe cases. The operation involves cutting and realigning the large leg bones known as the tibia (shin bone) or inserting staples on the insides of the knee bone to slow down growth.
