Diagnosis of Labyrinthitis
Many medical conditions can cause dizziness and vertigo, so you will need to have tests to determine whether you have labyrinthitis. The tests may include:
- a physical examination, where your GP may try to reproduce any feelings of dizziness or vertigo by quickly turning your head or changing your body position,
- hearing tests, and
- special eye tests to check for nystagmus (uncontrollable flickering of your eyes).
In some cases your GP may ask you to have an MRI scan (magnetic resonance imaging scan) or a CT scan (computed tomography scan) to rule out other rare but possible causes of your symptoms, such as a tumour or haemorrhage (internal bleeding).
