What is it used for? of Laxatives

Laxatives can help you to empty your bowels if you are having trouble going to the toilet.

They are also useful as a short term measure for people with hernias, haemorrhoids, or following abdominal surgery or childbirth, as they prevent straining which could be painful in these cases.

Laxatives are also used to clear the bowel before certain surgical procedures, such as an examination of the colon (colonoscopy) or a barium enema.
