Symptoms of Listeriosis

The majority of cases are so mild that they are thought to be just a mild viral infection or cold. Some are worse, with a fever, red eyes (conjunctivitis), and painful, swollen salivary glands in the cheeks (parotitis) as in mumps. Sometimes it is more severe still, with pustules on the skin, joint pain and swelling, bone inflammation and abscesses in the brain and spinal cord.
