How is it performed? of Liver transplant
You will be put under general anaesthetic (put to sleep) so you don’t feel any pain during the operation. Then, two or three drainage tubes will be inserted around you liver, to drain away excess blood and fluid during the operation.
An incision (opening) in your abdomenwill be made , just below the ribs and the diseased liver will be removed and replaced with the donor’s liver. Connections have to be made to the arteries that supply the liver with blood as well as to the bile ducts, which carry bile (the substance that helps break down food) into your stomach. The operation lasts from 6-10 hours . At the end of the operation, the incision will be covered with a dressing
