Results of Liver transplant
The results of liver transplantation have been improving steadily. Within one year, the survival rate is around 90% with the five-year survival rate around 75-80%. Most deaths occur from the immune system rejecting the new liver within the first three months or as a result of sepsis(infection). The survival rate is slightly lower in older or elderly people over the age of 65.
People who have a successful liver transplant will often enjoy a greater quality of life and are able to do most things including exercise, driving and returning to work.
