Who can use it? of MRI scan
If you have a medical condition that involves a metal implant, you cannot have an MRI scan. This includes pacemakers, surgical clips, pins or plates and cochlear implants (for deafness). If you have a contraceptive coil (IUD) fitted, you must tell the radiographer as some have copper wire in them.
You will be asked to complete a health checklist before having a scan to make sure it is safe for you to do so. It is important to tell your doctor if you think you may have any metal fragments anywhere. This is common if you do metalwork or welding for a living. An X-ray will need to be taken first if there is any risk of this.
Pregnant women are not advised to have MRI scans, but it may be performed if absolutely necessary.
