Diagnosis of Macular degeneration

Diagnosis of the condition is made by vision tests and by examination of the retina with an ophthalmoscope.

A procedure called fluorescein angiography may be carried out to check for abnormal blood vessels.  This is a test which allows the blood vessels at the back of the eye to be photographed as a fluorescent dye is injected into the bloodstream via your hand or arm.
