Diagnosis of Malaria
A preliminary diagnosis may be made from symptoms and establishing if there has been any possibility of contact with the Anopheles mosquito within the last 12 months. Those at risk are residents of, or travellers to or from, any country where malaria is present.
A blood test will be taken to confirm the diagnosis. If malaria infection has occurred the parasites will be visible in the blood under a microscope.
