Causes of Malnutrition
Malnutrition also occurs as a result of many different physical illnesses, such as inflammatory bowel disease, Crohn's disease, Coeliac disease and widespread cancer.
Alcoholism is an important cause of malnutrition. The alcohol provides enough calories to remove hunger but gives none of the right nutrients, and stomach irritation (gastritis) caused by the alcohol further discourages eating.
