Diagnosis of Marfan syndrome

Diagnosis of Marfan syndrome can be difficult, owing to the wide range of symptoms and their degree of severity.  Most people with the syndrome will not display all of the characteristic symptoms.

Initial diagnosis is made on the basis of a careful examination of the three main affected areas; the heart, skeleton and eyes.  Genetic testing has recently become available following the identification of the chromosome and gene responsible.
