Miscarriage

The term means a spontaneous ending of a pregnancy by loss of the baby before the 24th week of pregnancy.

Approximately one pregnancy in four ends in miscarriage, most of these occurring in the first 12 weeks of pregnancy. In some of these cases, the woman concerned is never aware that she is pregnant, she may have a rather late, and perhaps unusually severe period or not miss a period at all.
