A number of different methods have been tried to help prevent mucositis if you are having treatment for cancer. The only one of these which has been shown to be effective is swishing ice chips in your mouth for 30 minutes after each chemotherapy or radiation session.

It is very important that your mouth is clean and disease free prior to treatment.
