Diagnosis of Muscular dystrophy
The condition is supected when symptoms appear. Once muscle weakness is apparent diagnosis consists of:
- blood tests to identify the abnormal gene and any muscle damage,
- examination of a sample of muscle tissue (muscle biopsy),
- measurement of muscle enzymes,
- ultrasound and electrocardiogram to test for abnormal heart activity, and
- electromyogram (EMG) to test for electrical activity in the muscles.
