Treatment of Muscular dystrophy
There is no treatment that will cure the muscular dystrophies. Physiotherapy can help to prevent deformity and rigid joints in the later stages.
If you want to have children, it is important to discuss it first with your GP, who will refer you to a genetic counsellor.
Duchenne’s muscular dystrophy can be detected early in pregnancy by amniocentesis, in which a small amount of fluid from the womb is taken and examined for cells. These will show whether the gene causing the condition is present.
