Symptoms of Nosebleed
During a nosebleed, blood comes out of the nose. The flow of blood may be heavy or light and the nosebleed may last for a few seconds or over ten minutes. Nosebleeds can also happen when you are asleep.
See your GP or call NHS Direct on 0845 46 47 if you experience very heavy bleeding, palpitations, shortness of breath, turning pale or swallowing large amounts of blood causing you to vomit.
The bleeding may be more prolonged and harder to stop if you have high blood pressure, heart failure, a blood clotting disorder, or are taking anticoagulants such as warfarin or aspirin.
