Facts of Organ donation
- There are currently 10,926,428 people on the NHS Organ Donor Register.
- More than 5,500 people in the UK are waiting for an organ transplant. They must wait for a suitable donor.
- Nearly 400 people die every year in the UK while waiting for a transplant.
- Although there are millions of people on the register, most of them will not die in circumstances where they are able to donate their organs. So, it is important that more people join the register.
- Too few people have made sure that their family know about their wishes. If your relatives are not aware of your wishes, they may refuse permission for your organs to be used.
