How is it performed? of Osteopathy

An osteopath will take time to find out about your medical history as well as asking about your lifestyle and diet. Osteopaths have a trained sense of touch and will use their hands to find abnormalities to the structure of your body to decide what kind of osteopathy you will need. Sometimes they may also do an X-ray or blood test to fully diagnose a problem. They will probably tailor an individual programme for your condition and circumstances.

They will use their hands to stretch, massage and touch the body in a variety of ways using a mixture of gentle and forceful techniques. This can reduce pain and swelling and improve movement in parts of your body. It also encourages the movement of blood to and from your tissues and organs.

An osteopath will sometimes focus on your head and base of your back to encourage the flow of cerebrospinal fluid, which is found in the spinal cord. They may also advise you on changes you can make to your lifestyle or exercises you can do in your own time to complement your osteopathy.
