Diagnosis of Paget's disease
An X-ray or bone scan can confirm the diagnosis of paget’s disease of bone by highlighting any changes or abnormalities to the bone. In people who don’t have any symptoms, the condition is sometimes discovered during a routine X-ray for something else, such as a fracture.
A blood test can also be used to make a diagnosis. A chemical called alkaline phosphatase is always present in the blood, but there is a larger amount than normal when the body makes a lot of new bone cells.
