Side effects of Plasma products
Some people experience side effects during plasmapheresis (plasma exchange), including faintness, dizziness, and numbness or tingling around the mouth, nose and fingers.
Although it is very rare, some people can have an allergic reaction when they receive plasma products. These are usually mild, such as a rash and slightly raised temperature. Sometimes the antibodies in plasma can cause a more serious reaction, known as transfusion-related acute lung injury, which causes breathing difficulties.
The risks of transmission of infection are the same as with other blood components.
