Complications of Pneumococcal infections

Pneumococcal infections can lead to a number of other conditions such as:

  • meningitis,
  • pneumonia, community-acquired pneumonia (CAP) and broncho-pneumonia,
  • bronchitis,
  • ear infections, otitis media,
  • sinusitis,
  • peritonitis,
  • febrile bacteremia,
  • wound and tissue infection (sepsis),
  • rarely, heart, joints, abdomen infections, and
  • blood poisoning (septicaemia).
