Polycystic ovarian syndrome
Polycystic ovarian syndrome, also known as the Stein–Leventhal syndrome, is a condition associated with multiple cysts in the ovaries. About 25% of British women examined by ultrasound are found to have polycystic ovaries. Fortunately, only a small proportion of these women develop the syndrome.
This condition is now recognised as the most common pre-menopausal cause of failure of ovulation leading to infertility.
