Complications of Polymyalgia rheumatica
The most serious complication of PMR is giant cell arteritis. Arteries are blood vessels that carry blood from our heart to the rest of our body. When giant cell arteritis occurs, the arteries swell and become inflamed.
The arteries most commonly affected are the ones located on the temple (the sides of the forehead, next to the eyes). If untreated, giant cell arteritis can lead to serious eye problems, even blindness. So immediately tell your doctor if you start to get headaches, pain in your jaw, facial tenderness and any vision problems after contracting PMR.
