Complications of Post-natal depression
In rare cases, a severe form of depression called postnatal psychosis can develop. As well as the symptoms of depression, mothers who are affected may also have hallucinations, irrational thoughts and delusions. Women who are affected often do not realise they are ill.
Postnatal psychosis is serious mental illness. It is very important to see your GP if you, or a close family member or friend, are concerned.
