Complications of Primary biliary cirrhosis

Complications of this condition can include:

  • Osteoporosis due to reduced formation of bone
  • Fat-soluble vitamin deficiency (a lack of vitamins that are processed by the liver)
  • Hypercholesterolemia (a very large amount of cholesterol in the blood)
  • Other autoimmune conditions (these are common to over 80% of those with PBC) such as autoimmune thyroiditis, rheumatoid arthritis and scleroderma.
